The South Park Church of God Statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear South Park Church Family,

The South Park Church is committed to the health and safety of our congregation and community.  In accordance with the latest CDC’s, City of Houston’s, and Harris County’s recommendation to reduce gatherings of more than 10 people, we have decided to cancel all worship services, beginning this Sunday, March 22, until further notice.

In addition, all weekday church activities, including Wednesday Night Bible Study that were held at 3715 Yosemite, have been canceled until further notice.  The church office will be closed. We will have virtual Wednesday Night bible study and Sunday morning worship via the Zoom app.

This was not a decision made in fear, but according to the wisdom of our elected officials. We are praying for a swift resolution and for all of those who have been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19).  We ask that you join us in prayer for our world, country, The South Park Church congregation, and community. Stay connected with all your family and friends, especially those most vulnerable. Consider and be ever mindful of the following:

  • Use basic hygiene – wash your hands thoroughly (about 20 seconds) in hot water and soap. Wash between the fingers and don’t forget the thumb and the fingernails. If you are unable to do that use hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol content. Even after you pump gas, use grocery carts, etc,. use hand sanitizer as soon as you return to your car and, certainly, before you touch your face.

  • Generally, avoid touching at all times your eyes, nose, and mouth – especially with unclean hands.

  • If you must sneeze or cough, do so in a Kleenex and throw in trash.  If you don’t have this, then sneeze and cough in the cuff of your elbow

  • Disinfect frequently used places in your home or apartment.

  • Avoid large crowds. Those over the age of 60, especially those with serious underlying health conditions, should certainly avoid large crowds.

  • If you feel or are sick, please stay home and take care of yourself. Do not spread germs around. This is an act of love.

  • Stay updated on the most current information about COVID-19 from the most trusted sources: Center for Disease Control (CDC), local and state health departments, news stations that bring experts together to keep us informed, etc.

  • Just be wise and vigilant. Let’s look out for one another as well as yourself.

Although we are not gathering in person, you may still financially support The South Park’s mission “To share the Good News of God’s Kingdom to all people who, through the power of the Holy Spirit, are released from all forms of oppression, restored to wholeness, and equipped for service in the world.” Luke 4:18-19   Matthew 28:19-20   Ephesians 4:11-13
